The last few weeks have been a blur. We closed on the house, packed up, said our goodbyes, and drove the 1,000 miles to Los Fresnos. We arrived Tuesday night and have been busy unpacking and organizing the house since then.
Lyrics:
I know the Lord is nigh,
And would but cannot pray,
For Satan meets me when I try,
And frights my soul away,
And frights my soul away.
We want to thank all the people who have helped support us by praying for us, those who helped us load up in Birmingham, and our new friends in Los Fresnos who helped us unload the truck.
The kids are doing well so far. Olivia met the little girls that live next door to us on the first day and was pretty excited because they speak English. Sam has been a huge help unpacking and helping to get things organized. Everett determined that sour cream and onion chips are better here than in Alabama although I haven’t quite figured that one out.
Saturday night we were able to have dinner at the school with the other families that have already made it in to town. We met several families who we will be in school with over the next few years as well as some of the To Every Tribe staff.
Sunday morning we attended church at Divine Providence in Brownsville (http://divineprovidencechurch.org/) where most of the people from the school attend. We met many new people here as well and were able to have lunch with them at the church as part of their weekly Sunday meal together. I hope that we will be able to plug in and help serve in the local church while we are here.
Over the next few weeks please pray for us as we continue to meet new people and adjust to living life in south Texas. I am sure that homesickness will begin to set in as the weeks wear on. Know that we dearly miss our family and friends back home and long to see you again, and I am sure that longing will only grow stronger as the weeks and months go by.
I will be working for TekLinks during the day until school starts September 7th. After that I will drop back to around 10 hours a week to supplement our support as it continues to grow. If there are churches or people that you think we should talk to about our mission please pass them along. It still amazes and humbles me when I think about our family, friends, and partner churches that have decided to financially support the work of proclaiming the Gospel through such imperfect vessels as us. May God continue to grant us grace to proceed as He desires.
I would like to leave you with a thought from Pastor Joseph’s sermon this morning from Mark 9:14-29. As we go through these next two years and beyond I don’t want to have the presumptuous belief of the disciples, but along with the demon possessed boy’s father simultaneously cry, “I believe; help my unbelief!”
John Newton captured this in a hymn titled Help My Unbelief. Red Mountain Music in Birmingham recorded a contemporary version if you want to check it out:

Lyrics:
I know the Lord is nigh,
And would but cannot pray,
For Satan meets me when I try,
And frights my soul away,
And frights my soul away.
I would but can’t repent,
Though I endeavor oft;
This stony heart can never relent
Till Jesus makes it soft,
Till Jesus makes it soft.
Though I endeavor oft;
This stony heart can never relent
Till Jesus makes it soft,
Till Jesus makes it soft.
Help my unbelief.
Help my unbelief.
Help my unbelief.
My help must come from Thee.
Help my unbelief.
Help my unbelief.
My help must come from Thee.
I would but cannot love,
Though wooed by love divine;
No arguments have power to move
A soul as base as mine.
A soul so base as mine.
Though wooed by love divine;
No arguments have power to move
A soul as base as mine.
A soul so base as mine.
I would but cannot rest,
In God’s most holy will;
I know what He appoints is best,
And murmur at it still.
I murmur at it still.
In God’s most holy will;
I know what He appoints is best,
And murmur at it still.
I murmur at it still.
Help my unbelief.
Help my unbelief.
Help my unbelief.
My help must come from Thee.
Help my unbelief.
Help my unbelief.
My help must come from Thee.
With much love and prayer,
Jeremy, Kandy, Sam, Olivia, and Everett
