What We’ve Been Up To…

The past month and a half has been wonderfully busy for the Sanders family. What have been up to? Here’s a quick rundown:

  • We had a great Christmas in Texas. This was the first time we had celebrated the holiday away from Alabama, so it was a bit different, but God was gracious to give us a beautifully warm Christmas day on the beach!
  • We rang in the New Year with friends here at the Center for Pioneer Church Planting, complete with lots of food, fun, and fireworks!
  • We’ve all stayed busy with school, and Sam has worked hard enough to move on to the tenth grade! He’s now enjoying a bit of “summer” vacation before diving into his next school year. His goal is to finish tenth grade before we start language school in PNG in January.
  • Our dear friends, the Gibsons, left Los Fresnos to enter into full time field ministry in the southern Mexico city of Oaxaca. We had an emotional goodbye, but we know that they have a clear call  to take the gospel to the indigenous tribal people of Mexico. We can rejoice that God will be glorified and worshiped in a place where his name isn’t currently known.
  • We wished Sam a happy 16th birthday, and he enjoyed an entire weekend of fun to celebrate this milestone.
  • Jeremy and Sam traveled to Mexico a couple of weeks ago, and will be there again next week to continue the ministry in Village VH and Village R. The opportunities for ministry and learning about ministry in these villages continue to amaze us, and we pray that the relationships that are being formed will benefit the villages and To Every Tribe for many years.
  • Now we’re busy getting ready for our trip to Birmingham. We’re all very excited about this, as we haven’t been back since August and we miss it very much!
Our plans for our trip to Birmingham are coming together, and we hope to see many of you while we’re in town. As of now, we have plans to visit churches in Birmingham, Chelsea, and Georgia. We will also be spending time with family and friends in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, as well as our church family in Gardendale.
Thank you for continuing to partner with us in prayer during this time of learning and getting ready for the mission field. We have a few prayer requests for you guys:
  • The trip into Mexico next week: Pray that the team will continue to grow in grace toward one another and the villagers they work with. Pray for wisdom and discernment regarding various ministry opportunities. Pray that God will be glorified through everything they do.
  • PNG work permit: We have begun the application process for our PNG work permit, which is the first step in the PNG visa process. Please pray that everything goes through quickly and smoothly.
  • Our trip back to Birmingham: Pray for us as we prepare for the thousand mile trip back home. Although we’ve gotten quite accustomed to traveling by now, there are still a lot of logistics involved in planning the trip, scheduling time with supporting churches, spending time with family and friends, doctor appointments, etc. Pray that our vehicle doesn’t give us any problems on the trip, and that everything goes as smoothly as possible. Also pray that we will remember to show humility and love to one another at all times.
  • Church visits: Pray that God would give Jeremy the words to say behind the pulpit that will show God’s passion for his glory among the nations. Pray that we will be able to make much of Jesus wherever we are, and that God will use these visits to begin longterm relationships with these churches.
  • Doctor appointments: Please pray that all of the various doctor appointments we have scheduled will go smoothly, as we begin getting checkups and seeking medical clearance to move out of the country in a few months.
Here are a few pictures from the last few weeks. This is the grandparents’ favorite part 🙂
