Learning From the Pros and Planning for a Move

This has been a great week, as we’ve been privileged to hear from Vern and Carla Sterk, missionaries who have been working with indigenous Indians in southern Mexico for nearly four decades! Their class was entitled “Mission Across Cultures”, and their knowledge of this subject is expansive. I (Kandy) was blessed to be able to attend a ladies’ class on Friday afternoon taught by Carla Sterk. In this class, she explained in detail the unique struggles that families on the mission field experience, and encouraged us to keep the emotional and spiritual health of our children in mind as we seek to plant churches in unreached areas. A common problem among families in ministry is that parents are often so busy with “God’s work” that they forget to disciple their own children, which in reality IS God’s work. We have already struggled a bit with this issue over the past couple of years, but are praying that we will continually be drawn to time management which is God honoring.

We’ve been able to have strategy meetings this week with the Sissons and To Every Tribe staff about our launch into PNG, which happens in just over a year. Looking at maps of unreached villages, discussing timelines, and determining the logistics of the upcoming move is very exciting for our family. There is one thing we know for sure: we have a lot to do in the next few months!
All four of the Alabama families that are part of To Every Tribe spent a morning at the Brownsville Zoo this week.

“Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!”   Psalm 150
